Cambridge Academy of Transport: Going global
Singapore: The chairman of the influential Cambridge Academy of Transport (CAT) has given Maritime CEO some interesting pointers on how maritime training is changing this decade. Manish Singh, formerly with V.Group, took over the chairman's role at the academy last year.
“Businesses are seeking to spend less but smarter on developing their people,” he said, adding: “More training and development will happen on the job instead of in the classroom.”
The academy is a leading maritime knowledge services provider with three decades of experience in the maritime and associated industries with more than 5,000 maritime professionals as its alumni, all of whom can now access the academy’s brand new alumni portal at www.catzalumni.com.
With Cambridge as headquarters, CAT is now spreading its wings across the world.
“We are in the process of establishing CAT in Singapore to better service the regional market. Within the first half of this year we will launch as many as six of our world class programs in the Lion City,” Singh said.
Last November CAT also hosted a four-day course in Hong Kong.
“CAT has been working with regional businesses and professionals over the years and our endeavour is to localise more resources to serve the clients better. We are also actively seeking the best talent in the industry to further develop our regional resource pool,” Singh said.
On the current tough times for shipping, Singh can envisage training opportunities.
“We believe one must stick to core competence and strive to be nimble in one's approach to the market conditions,” Singh said. “The ongoing uncertainty requires new skill sets to be developed and causes executives today to learn from past cycles and adversities. I believe the ongoing phase will regenerate the industry, shake off some of the marginal also-rans and mean that only the fittest will survive and sustain.” [13/02/13]
