Learning English is fun

Музика. Виходять діти з іграшками в руках. Вони тримають: потяг, літак.

First Boy:

There is a funny town

That is upside down.

First Girl:

In that Funny town

That is upside down

The children sleep all day.

All Together:

And at the night they play.

Second Boy:

When the sun is overhead

Every child sleeps in bed.

Second Girl:

Then at night the stars come out

The children get up

And jump about.

^ First Boy:

In that funny town

That is upside down

First Girl:

Where everything we find is such a different kind.

^ Second Boy:

The airplanes fly along the ground.

Second Girl:

Up in the clouds,

The trains roll around.

^ First Boy:

In that funny, funny town

That is upside down

The people eat their breakfast

Late at night.

First Girl:

And they eat their dinner. But the early morning light.

^ Second Boy:

Mothers put ice-cream on the stove.

Second Girl:

To keep the ice-cream nice and cold.

First Boy:

And their newspapers have

Only the news that is very old.

^ First Girl:

Oh, everything we know is upside down.

All Together:

In that funny, funny, funny town.

^ Діти зникають. Лунає музика. Виходять 4 ведучих.

First Compere:

I can read, I can write,

I can speak English too.

I love learning English!

And what about you?

^ Second Compere:

I am fond of learning English

It is very interesting for me.

Third Compere:

It is always good to make interesting things.

^ Fourth Compere:

Boys and girls, let’s have some fun!

Let’s speak English at the party.

First Compere:

Let’s do it for pleasure. How nice it is to do something for pleasure.

^ Second Compere:

It is wonderful to do something for pleasure.

Let’s do it together. We invite you to our magic land of wonders.

First Compere:

This is the key of the kingdom.

^ Second Compere:

In that kingdom there is a town.

Third Compere:

Dneprodzerzhinsk is its name.

Fourth Compere:

In that town there is a district.

^ First Compere:

Called Left Bank.

Second Compere:

In that district there is a yard.

Third Compere:

Of the Lyceum number two (2).

^ Fourth Compere:

In that yard there is a house.

First Compere:

Don’t you know it?

Second Compere:

Let me introduce this house I…

^ Third Compere:

No, no, the pupils of the 5-th form will do it better.


Лунає музика. Виходить група дітей. Співають “Пісню про будинок”.




In front of my house there’s a tree

My cat likes to climb in with me.





At the back of my house there’s a hill

Where I go hiking with Phil.





Next to my house there’s a creek

Where I catch fish every week.





Across the road there’s a lake

Where I go swimming with Jake.





Round my house there’s a lawn

On week-ends, I sit there till down.





On top of my house there’s a nest.

The bird living there is a pest.





Under the porch there’s a mouse

Sometimes it comes in the house.





Over the door there’s a light.

It helps you to find me at night.





Inside the house there is lots more

To see just knock at the door.

^ Під час виконання пісні, діти виконують дії про які співають.

Second Compere:

But before we knock at the door,

Let’s have a look around.

^ Third Compere:

We are in the yard. In our yard of wonders.

First Compere:

Our yard is your yard,

Welcome to our yard.

We all can play here.

^ Fourth Compere:

You are my good friends,

We are your good friends,

We are all friends here.

Fourth Compere:

Our yard is your yard.

Welcome to our yard!

And let’s sing a song together.

(Лунає пісня “The More We Get Together”)

^ Third Compere:

Since we are friends, you and us, so we can come into the house. Let’s knock at the door.

Стукають.

Fourth Compere:

In the house there is a room,

In the room there is a shelf,

On the shelf there is a book.

^ Заносять велику книгу. Лунає музика.

First Compere:

A new magic book,

Full of pictures was bought,

For a good little girl,

Whose name was Jane Dort.

^ На сцені з′являється дівчинка. Це і є Джейн Дорт.

Second Compere:

She looked at the pictures,

She liked them indeed.

But she was too young.

To write and to read.

^ Third Compere:

What world of wonders are our books,

As one opens them and looks.

New ideas and people rise

In our fancies and our eyes.


Jane Dort:

Oh, the book is so big!

Oh, the book is so thick!

Is it for me?

Let’s peep into the book! What’s there?

^ Лунає музика. Джейн відкриває першу сторінку книжки.

Fourth Compere:

Oh, I see the letters on this page!

All the words are made of them.

Jane Dort:

What is the ABC? I don’t know!

^ First Compere:

ABC – it’s an alphebeat.

Let’s listen to the song about the ABC.

^ 2) двоєстишше о буквах

Jane Dort:

It’s very interesting. I’ll learn the letters very soon and read all the books in the world. Let’s look up! What’s next?

^ Second Compere:

Oh, this page is full of cats and domestic animals!

Jane Dort:

Let’s listen about them. I think it’s fun!

^ 1) Віршик про котика;

2) Three little kittens;

3) Вірш про домашніх тварин.

Jane Dort:

Oh, I like cats and kittens and all domestic animals. They are so nice. But let’s turn one more page. What’s there?

^ Third Compere:

Jane, do you like fairy-tales?

Jane Dort:

Of course, I do!

Third Compere:

Let’s look in our book. Oh, There is a fairy-tale about three little pigs!

Jane Dort:

It was very nice. But I am a little girl and I’d like to rest a little: to play with my toys and sing my favorite songs.

^ Fourth Compere:

O’key Jane! Just do it!

Fourth Compere:

Did you have a good rest, Jane?

Jane Dort:

Yes, I did. Oh! I see a little boy and a woman who are they?

First Compere:

That little boy is Tom Sowyer and that woman is his Aunt Polly.

Scene I


^ Aunt Polly:

Tom!… Tom!… (No answer.) Where is the boy? Tom!

Tom (appearing):

Here I am.

Aunt Polly:

Oh, you’ve been to that closet1. What were you doing there?

Tom:

Nothing, dear auntie!

Aunt Polly:

Nothing! Look at your hands. (Tom looks at his hands.) And look at your mouth. What is that?

Tom:

I don’t know, Aunt.

Aunt Polly:

Well, I know. It’s jam2, That’s what it is. (Pointing to a switch3 on the floor.) Hand4 me that switch!

Tom:
Oh, look behind you, Aunt!

^ Aunt Polly looks behind her. Tom runs away. Aunt Polly stands surprised for a moment, then she breaks into a laugh.



Scene II

^ Aunt Polly:

Tom!… Tom!… Where is that naughty boy? Tom, go and writewash5 the fence6.

Tom:

I’m here, Auntie Polly. Oh, Auntie, I can’t. I’ll do it… tomorrow.

^ Aunt Polly:

Writewash the fence, I say! (Goes away.)

Tom begins writewashing the fence. Ben appears. He has an apple in his hand.

Ben:

What are you doing?

Tom:

I am writewashing the fence.

Ben:

Do you want to say you like it?

Tom:

Of course, I do. Does a boy writewash a fence every day?

^ Tom goes on writewashing. He does not look at Ben.

Ben:

Tom, let me whitewash a little!

Tom:

No, I can’t. Jim wanted to do it, but Aunt Polly did not let him.

Ben:

Tom, do let me. I’ll give you my apple.

Tom:

All right.

^ He takes the apple, sits down and begins to eat it. Ben is whitewashing the fence. Billy appears.

Billy:

Hello! What are you doing here?

Ben:

Tom and I are whitewashing the fence.

Billy:

You don’t think it is interesting, do you?

Ben:

We do. Jim wanted to do it, but Aunt Polly didn’t let him.

Billy:

Tom, let me whitewash a little! I’ll give you my dead rat.

Tom:

Ben, Let him whitewash the fence!

Ben:

No, I won’t!

^ They begin fighting.

Tom:

Stop that! Now it’s your turn7 to whitewash, Billy.

Now Billy is working.

Tom:

Now it’s your turn to whitewash, Ben.

^ Now Ben is working.


Aunt Polly (appearing):

Oh, it’s all done! You are a good boy, Tom. You can work when you want to. Now may go and play.

Tom:

Hurrah8! Let’s run to the river!

They run away.

All the boys:
Hurrah!

Tom and Sid are in their beds. It is morning and time to get up. Tom doesn’t want to go to school. He wants to be ill. Then he could at home.

Tom (sitting):

I don’t want to go to school. What can I do to stay at home? Oh! My tooth is loose1. That’s wonderful!… No, it won’t do. Aunt Polly will pull it out2

Oh, what a wonderful idea came to me! (He lies back and begins to cry. But Sid is sleeping. Tom cries louder): Sid! Sid!

Sid (opens his eyes):
What has happened, Tom?

^ Tom doesn’t answer. He continues crying. Sid sits up and looks at Tom.

Sid:

Tom! Say, Tom! Tom! What has happened to you3?

^ He gets up and comes up to Tom. Tom continues crying.

Tom:

Oh, Sid! I am dying. I am not angry with you.

Sid:

Oh, Tom, you are not dying! Don’t!

Tom:

I am not angry with Aunt Polly. Tell her so. And, Sid, give my cat with one eye to the new girl at school and tell her…

^ Sid takes his clothes and runs out of the room.

Sid (shouting):

Oh, Aunt Polly, come! Tom is dying!

Aunt Polly:

Dying!

Sid:

Yes, come quickly!

Aunt Polly:

Don’t say so! (She runs in comes quickly up to Tom’s bed). You, Tom! Tom, what has happened to you, my boy?

Tom:

Oh, Auntie, look at my right hand! It is red and hot.

Aunt Polly

(seeing that his hand is not red and hot):




Oh, Tom, stop that nonsense4 and get up!

Tom:

But, Auntie, it is so hot, that I’ve forgotten about my tooth.

^ Aunt Polly:

Your tooth? And what has happened to your tooth?

Tom:

It’s loose.

Aunt Polly:

Open your mouth. Well, you are right. You tooth is loose. Sid, bring me some thread5.

Tom:

Oh, please, dear Auntie, don’t pull it out. It’s all right now.

Sid brings the thread. Aunt Polly ties one end of the thread to Tom’s tooth and the other to the bed. Then she suddenly claps her hands before Tom’s face. Tom falls back. You can see the tooth handing on the thread.

Tom:

Oh, oh! (he covers his mouth with his hands) Oh! My tooth was all right. But I didn’t want to go to school.

Aunt Polly:

Oh, Tom, so all this is because you don’t want to go to school. You want to go fishing. Tom, Tom, I love you so dearly, and you… Now get up quickly and get ready to go to school!

Jane Dort:

That was very funny… I can hear music. Oh, that is a song. What is it about?

Second Compere:

It is about three brothers, who always fights and his Dad who finds a way to stop them.

Jane Dort:

That was a very good story. I think, I shall never do the boy’s mistake – to fight with my sister…

I see there is the last page in the book.

Third Compere:

And there is a song on it. Let’s sing it together.

It’s time to say goodbye.
